Where a child sits between two age rows, order the larger. A slightly loose adjustable cap gets adjusted and worn; a tight one comes off and stays off.
Why Age Is a Weak Predictor
Head circumference growth is not uniform between children. By age two, differences in growth rate have produced real spread — an inch between two children the same age is entirely normal, and that is a full size band.
Hair adds to it. Even at this age, volume changes how a hat sits and can push a child into the size above their measured circumference.

- 5 years and up. Small snapbacks become viable as the head reaches the minimum setting.
The independence point is worth weighting. A child who can put the hat on themselves wears it when they want it; one who needs help often goes without.

- Snapbacks below about five. The smallest setting is often still too large.
- Shrinking an adult logo. Rebuild it at the smaller scale instead.
- Fitted sizes. Growth continues and there is no adjustment.
Comfort Decides Whether It Gets Worn
