Decorating a Cadet Hat

A baseball cap has crown volume above the head where hair can sit. A cadet crown is flat and close, so hair has to compress or the hat perches. For anyone with thick, curly or voluminous hair, that means sizing up — often by more than one step — or the hat simply will not sit correctly.
It also affects how the hat reads. On short hair the silhouette is clean and close to the head, which is the intended look. On volume, the crown lifts and the flat top tilts, which reads as a poor fit even when the circumference is correct.
For a group order this narrows the audience noticeably. Where a program needs to fit everyone comfortably, an adjustable cap covers more people. Where the cadet silhouette is specifically wanted, ordering adjustable versions and expecting some people to decline is the realistic plan.
Cadet Hats in a Wider Uniform Program
Cadet caps rarely stand alone. They usually sit inside a uniform program alongside shirts, aprons or outerwear, and two things follow from that.
First, the logo has to work at three scales — large on a shirt back, medium on a chest, and very small on the cadet band. Most brand marks were never drawn for the third of those, so a simplified single-line version is worth developing once and reusing across every small placement. That version tends to be useful well beyond headwear.
Second, thread color should be consistent across the program. A cap embroidered in a slightly different navy from the shirts is visible when the two are worn together, and it is the kind of detail that reads as sloppy without anyone being able to name why.
